4 Hour Car Crash Avoidance Course

(This course is available to licensed drivers who have 50 hours of driving experience.)

Tuition:  $150.00

April 28, 2007, 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

The Curriculum

Classroom Portion: Short Ground School

The classroom portion covers proper hand position, seating position and we cover basic vehicle dynamics.

Slalom Course:

This course is a serpentine set-up in a straight line with cones 80 feet apart. It is designed to teach weight transfer, steering wheel feel and control, throttle control, throttle oversteer, and judging distance.

Threshold Braking Course:

This course teaches the student to brake the car safety without getting the car in a full wheel lock-up if the car is not equipped with ABS brakes. If the student has a car with ABS brakes it teaches the student how ABS brakes function. The student will learn "Threshold Braking Techniques" this is where the student will bring the car’s braking to almost full lock-up learning to stop the car in the shortest possible distance. This allows the student to brake more effectively and safely thus reducing reaction time and braking distance required to stop (thus avoiding a possible crash).

Accident Avoidance Course:

This course teaches emergency evasive maneuvers and decision-making when confronted with emergencies. The student will take the concepts of the slalom course and threshold braking course and put them together to control the car and to "panic stop" the car in the shortest possible distance.

CAR CRASH AVOIDANCE COURSE

Who should take the course?: Any licensed driver with a minimum of 50 hours of driving. Some Insurance companies give a 10% discount for 3 years on your policy.

EXPLANATION OF TRAINING TECHNIQUES

This course is designed to teach car control techniques that can be used in emergency situations. The student will use the vehicle that they normally drive to learn the limits of that vehicle. Max Maxwell’s Car Crash Avoidance Course is conducted at our training facilities in Millington. The classroom portion is held in our training facilities located at Agricenter International building C 2nd floor.

REASONS FOR TAKING THE CAR CRASH AVOIDANCE COURSE

CONCENTRATION:

Do this right, and the brainpower you devote to the course will be monumental. Exhausting, but stimulating and fun. You have to eliminate distractions. Whereas responsible public-road driving is all about being attuned to distractions and processing them and knowing what you’ll do if that SUV moves over, if you round a curve and find debris in the road, or if a 4x6 board falls off the truck in front of you. If it does will you be able to handle that emergency situation without panicking. This is the place to learn the limits of your vehicle and your driving skills.

REPETITION:

Training requires repetitions: this is how driving skills develop. Doing the same thing over and over allows you to experiment (turning a little sooner here, braking later there). This course allows you to see exactly what the effects are if you give the vehicle too much throttle or turn the steering wheel too much. This closed training course is the place to learn the limits of your vehicle and your driving skills.

RESPONSIBILITY

Just knowing that your are taking the smart, effective path to improve your skills helps give you confidence that you will be able to handle an emergency situation when you encounter it. Giving yourself the opportunity to test the limits of your vehicle in a safe and controlled environment. It allows you to experiment with the controls of your vehicle, vastly reducing the impulse to do so on the street.

PREDICTABILITY:

The use of a closed training course removes some critical unknowns. Everyone is going the same direction. For starters: no one will be nosing out into your path from a blind driveway. And you are not going to find oil or diesel fuel spilled all over the pavement You know what’s coming, and what isn’t. This allows you to concentrate on improving your driving skills. On the street these variables require you to maintain a wide safety margin.
